Important Steps to Begin Paying Off Collection Accounts
Article By: Joe Larson

It is necessary to pull your credit report so that you can pay of collection accounts. Once a year, you can obtain a free credit report from all three credit bureaus at http://www.annualcreditreport.com. Having a copy of your credit report will enable you to see just who you owe, how much you owe them, and how to contact each one. By examining your credit report, you can be sure that there are no mistakes on it and have mistakes corrected if there are. Sitting down and deciding on a monthly budget will be your next step. But the smaller the credit balances the better, with no outstanding balance at all being ideal. Sending you to court for wage garnishment is a common practice of collection agencies. The legal process will oftentimes be avoided by agreeing to a payment schedule. It may be difficult to work out a payment arrangement because, unfortunately, many collection agencies do not want to. However, some are willing, so do make an attempt. Note: People often make the most mistakes when a plan is not in order.

Original Article URL: Important Steps to Begin Paying Off Collection Accounts

Joe Larson is a certified financial counseling expert working for Family Life Credit Services, a Christian credit counselors center.
