London is a wonderful place to visit at any time of the year. It's an extremely versatile destination too - you can see a show, visit the London landmarks dotted around the city, and perhaps even take a stroll along the Thames.
But, if you really want to spend some money, you can wander around some of the capital's quirkiest shops and stalls, offering a wide range of goodies for you to take home with you. While some will stock the usual souvenirs you would expect to see, there are other shops which have an altogether different range of items that may be of interest.
One of the best places to head to is Covent Garden, which plays host to a wide range of stalls and shops that you won't find anywhere else. Independent traders often come here to display their wares to both tourists and locals, with everything from hand made jewellery to unique photographs on offer.
Covent Garden is famous for many things, but its market is certainly near the top of the list. It has existed for over four hundred years and, depending on what day of the week you visit on, you will be greeted by anything from modern crafts to a selection of antiques. One thing is for certain - you'll find it hard to walk away without spending some money in the process!
If clothing is more your style and you are looking for something a bit more adventurous than the items on offer in the department stores, be sure to take a stroll down Carnaby Street. There are plenty of small and unusual clothes shops dotted all over London though, so you will never be that far from somewhere unique.
If you enjoy the hustle and bustle of a good old fashioned market you certainly won't lose out in London. While Covent Garden may be one of the most popular, there are plenty of others that draw in the crowds as well. The Berwick Street Market just off Oxford Street is great for food items, while Brixton Market also has many surprises up its sleeve for any visitors to London.
In fact, there are so many shops and markets to see in London that you might be better off booking a room in one of the many hotels in London to make sure you have sufficient time to browse the best shops and markets that the city has to offer.
Work out the areas you would like to visit before deciding where to stay, since the less time you have to spend travelling the better. You'll certainly be thankful of that advice at the end of the day and you're weighed down by your purchases!
