-Recently, a former business partner of mine, when trying to iron out some personal issues between team members during a period of high tensions, told the team "a lesson learned is that emotions have no place in business." I thought about this. She was referring to some examples of negativity in the work place. Still, I thought that was an absurd thing to say. Even in the work place.

-Emotions play a part of every aspect of our lives. Often this is especially true in business. I've always wondered why so may feel that professionalism is defined, in part by never showing or expressing one's emotions. I've observed some very skilled and seasoned professionals use the art of expression through humor, compassion, vexation and other emotions to expertly gain the trust and respect of others around them as well as to manipulate many situations to their advantage.

-How do you celebrate your success? How do you find the courage to get up every morning and give it your best? How do you greet your business partners and coworkers every day? How do you deal with adversity?

-Even when we are upset ,stressed or tired in the work place and frustration gets the better part of us for the moment if we express it, deal with it and move on it can be very constructive. Sometimes you just need to vent your feelings. I had to learn the hard way not to keep my emotions bottled inside. Sure, there is a wrong way, a right way, the right time and the right place to do it. But, emotions are part of who we are. It makes us human. Humans have complex systems of communicating through emotions and expressions that define us as a species. Never deny yourself your emotions. It is not healthy. It is not wise to encourage others to repress emotions in any atmosphere.

-Be sensitive to other people and their need to express themselves. Maybe you have mastered your emotions and are in total control (Personally I think that is an illusion) but don't expect that from others. You will often be resented and sometimes despised for that in your person life as well as the work place. Allow the people around you in the work place the room to be upset and frustrated at times. Perhaps you may encourage constructive ways to deal with and express these emotions. But never repress. People are usually wary of and have difficulty trusting someone who presents a cold front. Maybe you can even go as far as to give someone a hug when they could use one. Just ask. You may be pleasantly surprised by the answer. And don't get offended if the answer is no. Maybe just shrug and offer to be there if he or she needs someone to talk to.

-Here are some words of wisdom. Be happy in the work place. Greet your business partners and customers alike with warmth. Be courageous. Be jubilant. Smile and acknowledge others who smile at you. Congratulate your business partners on their successes. Be sensitive. Be expressive. Laugh as often as you can. Be emotional. It is healthy and it is human. Every religion and every philosophy ever know to man teaches compassion, forgiveness, altruism and spiritual awareness in all aspects of you life. Perhaps one who does not acquiesce to this tenet is one who has not a soul.
