Saving a relationship should always begin with the awareness that something is going wrong in the relationship. This is a very critical first step because many people who are in a relationship always have a blind eye on the status of their relationships. We have heard stories of people discounting the fact that their relationship is in jeopardy, not acknowledging the obvious fact that they've lost excitement or interest in their relationship.

The fact that you acknowledge the rocky status of the relationship is the first step. However, you still have a long way to go in order to save a relationship. Here are some pointers to help you save the relationship which was once so vibrant and exciting.

First you need to identify the dilemma confronting you and your partner. What was the root cause of the problem? Did someone cheat? Is monetary concern troubling your partnership? There are also instances when the problems are not the obvious. Perhaps your partner has become disinterested with the relationship, or you are troubled with how your partner has looked like in recent months.

After identifying the problem, you need to make it known to your partner. Many people fall for the trap of simply ignoring the problem even after they've identified the cause of their rocky relationship. Tell him or her what you think is the problem affecting your partnership. Your significant other might be surprised of your assessment, and even help you in sorting the real cause of the problem. If you open communication lines there's a good chance that you can fix your relationship as soon as possible.

Then you and your partner should decide on the course of action. Any problem has a solution, remember that as long as you open the communication lines with your partner you can always come up with a solution on the said problem. For example, if your partner does not like you flirting with other people then its best to stop going out with other individuals. You might also want to stop talking with people your partner is not comfortable with.

Make promises but be sure you can fulfill them. Promises should be your final way of concretizing whatever solutions you've come up. If you promise to do something, then do it. Always keep your word! This way, both of you can be assured of a more healthy and happy relationship.
