There are a few nice ideas to keep yourself happy while making your pet wholesome, without being harassed a lot in your garden. Make your garden friendly not only to you but also to your pets by following the points:
1) Garden should be created in such a way that pets can be able to romp and race around without injuring themselves and at the same time not trampling plants and flowers.
2) Have a long, smooth and comfortable winding running track or path in gardens with raised beds or smooth and hardy plants on either side of it. Otherwise pets divert!
3) Have an exclusive space for pets in the garden. Have their shelter in cool and calm well demarcated areas.
4) Have an exclusive space for pets as their toilet areas with proper training. If dogs urinate on lawn, dilute the spot immediately with water, and apply some organic manure over it.
5) Secure pets from being drowned into ponds or water logged areas around the garden.
6) Have plants of smooth foliage and easy regenerative capacities on either side of the pathways
7) Have dense plantation on raised beds. Container gardening is the best and easily manageable one.
8) Fence the newly planted areas with mesh wire.
9) Put sturdy plants around the edges and sensitive plants in the center of the garden
10) Avoid poisonous plants, weeds and mushrooms to emerge out in gardens. Use plants which are not toxic to pets like: bamboos, pampas grass, daisy, marigold, etc. Use hardy salt tolerant lawns and ground covers in gardens. Use only prickly plants, not thorny ones to scare pets.
11) Set ground rules for pets (pet habits) from the beginning.
12) Use games for pets to use up excess energy that might otherwise go into destructive behavior.
13) Keep pets out of garden while using pesticides or harmful chemicals, or otherwise go for safe organics
14) Have chicken wire fixed along the base of boundary hedges to fill any gaps. Bury the chicken wire about half foot deep turning inwards for about another half foot to avoid rabbits being burrowed out of gardens.
