The first thing that a relationship needs is honesty. A relationship without honesty is like a car without wheels, it will not go anywhere. Being honest with the people you are in a relationship with is important because without honesty trust cannot be established. Some people have difficulty with honesty because they feel that their past is too difficult and the other person cannot care for them if they knew what their secrets were. The problem is that secrets are like a ticking time bomb. People may feel that secrets will remain hidden, however the closer the relationship, the more damage they can do to relationships. Now that being said, you don't need to tell everyone everything about your life, but for those people closest to you, the more honest you will be, the more trust there will be in your relationship. If you are dating someone, this is particularly true; being honest in your relationship will draw you together as a couple. So honesty is one of the most important aspects to develop a good relationship.

Building block to a good relationship is being a person of integrity. One definition of integrity is speaks of a person being complete. This is the best type of person to be in a relationship with because they are not looking for you to make them whole. Some theories in the past felt that for relationships we look for the other person to complete us, however two people who feel that they are whole are the best together because feel complete in themselves, and when this happens each person can be themselves and they are not expected to be anything but who they are.

Sometimes people do not feel that they are complete within themselves because they have issues such as abuse or criticism that has damaged their self-esteem. Through working with a counselor they can work on their self-esteem and begin to explore the unique person they are. If self-esteem is an issue for you, through working with some self-help material or with a counselor, you can become a person who is confident and whole within yourself.

In closing, the e best building blocks to relationships are honesty, trust and integrity. With these building blocks you will build great relationships.
