Is Generation X the hardest working Generation?

I was watching the news the other day and they had a story about Generation X and how they may end up being the hardest working generation in history. Being a proud Gen X'er myself, this story intrigued me greatly.

It is true; we Gen X'ers are definitely changing the way things are done. Especially when it comes to business. And businesses are taking notice.

We are the first Generation to multi-task our brains out. Conversation, email, text messaging, internet research, planning our next vacation, mapping out directions, listening to an audio book or music or your favorite podcast, watching a movie, and on and on. And this can all be accomplished while driving to work. Then we perform our regular job and since we are so mobile, we take our jobs home with us. And continue doing it late into the night. Yes, we got a bad rap in the 90's but we are changing the world and I believe for the better.

Our grandparents were the greatest generation and my grandfather came back back from WWII and worked in the steel mill for 30 years and retired. Our parents are from the baby boomer generation and my father returned from Vietnam and drove a truck for 30 years and he also retired. After I realized that I wouldn't be the next Nirvana (undoubtedly the greatest band ever) and that my mechanic job wasn't going to get me what I wanted, I cut the mullet, parked the camera and enlisted in the Army myself.

I served 11 years and learned a great deal about handwork and leadership. I wouldn't trade those years for anything. But I always found ideas constantly going through my head. Great ideas. Some were inventions, some were dreams of owning my own business, and some were improving upon existing ideas. I soon realized that I had an entrepreneurial spirit and that I would never be a corporate guy who retires from a company. For me, that was too risky. I was going to do more.

This seems to be spirit of Generation X. We don't want to be tied down to a JOB (just over broke) for 30 years, just to retire at half our income. Don't get me wrong, our parents in many ways had to do it because that's the way it was back then. But these days the opportunities we ourselves have created are endless. We don't want to be tied to a desk or to a factory or to anything for that matter and we don't have to be.

More and more of us Gen X'ers are taking a different route. We are doing what we want to do and we are changing the world in the process. We are inventing new technologies, developing websites that make us millionaires and working from our homes, the hours that we choose and we are doing it successfully. We were a generation of rebels that just wouldn't accept the old way of doing things no matter what it was.

Somewhere along the way we became very hard working, disciplined, and self sufficient. We became very business savvy and we learned how to use technology to make a lot of money in a very short time. One of the industries we are capitalizing on is the health and wellness industry. Our parents, the baby boomers are retiring and let's face it, they don't want to get old, or look old or become stagnant. Since the baby boomers make up the majority of the population, they are a huge market for us Gen X'ers to help get what they want. We have the opportunity to help them stay healthy, live longer, look younger, and make some extra cash to supplement their retirement check. One of the best things you can do in life is help people get what they want and this market pays very well to do that.

The health and wellness industry is a multi-billion dollar industry and is expected to continue growing for years and years to come. Many people are capitalizing on this and the time is now. There are a lot of companies who are utilizing Network Marketing to get their product out to the people. It is a very efficient business model and network marketing is the fastest growing business model in the world right now. It allows everyone that gets involved to own and operate their own business. And it is a home based business to boot.

With network marketing, income is based solely on performance. Low performance equals little or no pay, whereas high performance equals unlimited potential income. Now, isn't that fair? No longer are we stuck in a job where our income is dictated by some suit in the corporate office, where we live, or how much everyone else in our field makes. Our income is based on our performance and we write our own checks. There is no other business that is more fair and ethical than that.

But it is your own business and it takes discipline to be successful. There are people in my industry that make zero per month and there are some who make seven figures per month. A lot of people have the mentality that the internet can make them rich overnight. The internet is simply a tool that we Gen Xers have figured out how to leverage to our advantage to make substantial amounts of money. But it takes work.

It is possible with some network marketing companies to be very successful with as little investment as about $50 per month. But make no mistake, there are a lot of scams out there and you need to do your homework before joining a company. Find a good network marketing company to partner up with and they will provide you excellent product, excellent business training and a lot of money that is residual month after month.

So there you have it. We Gen Xer's changed music, saving you from those ridiculous hair bands of the 80's. We changed technology allowing you to multi-task, communicate and interact with people like never before. And we are changing business, saving you from having to work a dead end job for 30 years for a boss who could lay you off or fire you at anytime leaving you broke and on the street. We have changed everything for the better.

You're welcome.
