When most people enter a flower shop to buy their love a dozen roses they just pick whatever color they like or their special someone likes. Did you know there is an actual meaning to the colors of roses? Next time you might want to consider what color you are giving to show your gal or guy that you have given this some thought.

Red roses are the most popular color to give someone you love. This is great because that is what the red means, "I love you". It is simple to show your love and your special someone will know what you are saying instantly.

Pink roses are a bit confusing as they have several meanings based on the color of pink. They range from gratitude or appreciation with dark pink to sympathy with light pink. Men tend to think that pink roses show a fun sense of love to a girlfriend while they really are saying, "I think you are sweet". Be careful with this color guys.

White roses are so tender in appearance that you might think they are the perfect choice of color for the girl you love. You might want to think again. White roses signify purity and innocence, sort of like a bride wearing white at her wedding. Consider giving a dozen white roses to your daughter on that special thirteenth birthday but not to your girlfriend the day you propose. White roses also have an alternative meaning of secrecy or silence. You might hand your mistress a single white rose to show that you are thinking of her.

Yellow roses are great for giving to a friend. The yellow color signifies friendship and joy. If your best friend is down in the dumps send her a dozen yellow roses. This will bring her some happiness and let her know that you are there for her.

Orange or coral colored roses are beautiful. This color denotes desire so definitely give this color to the person you that you want to know a lot more other than a friendship way.

Pale colors are usually safe for friendship or social situations while bold colors show more emotion. Giving a dozen red roses means more than if you give a half dozen. Sometimes a single rose shows that you are just thinking of her/him. Consider all of these color meanings before handing your love a bouquet.
