Everywhere you look gas prices are skyrocketing. So it's very important to do the best we can to save gas on our vehicles. Especially if you have a big truck or SUV. So what can you do to increase your gas mileage and save money? Well, there are many things you can do to save money on gas, increase your gas mileage dramatically and help slow down the wear and tear on your vehicle. Not to mention, increase the life of your car or truck.

The first thing we can do to increase gas mileage is drive sensibly. What does that mean? Well, basically don't put the pedal to the metal! You can drastically increase your gas mileage by just driving easy. Rapid acceleration and braking can decrease your gas mileage by 33 percent! So you can save money just by driving normal.

Another great tip is obeying the speed limit. Every vehicle is different when it comes to fuel economy at different speeds. But in most vehicles, gas mileage will decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph. We can assume that every 5 mph you drive over 60 is like paying an extra $.30 a gallon! So just by obeying the speed limit you can save 7-23%. Not only that, but it's safer!

Another way to save gas is by reducing excess weight. Every 100 pounds you car or truck is hauling can reduce your gas mileage by up to 2%. This is based off of the weight of your vehicle. So this applies more to the smaller cars on the road.

Also you should avoid excess idling. Think about it. When do you get the best gas mileage? When you are stuck in traffic going 10 mph? Or when you are cruising down the freeway going 50-60 mph? The answer is of course cruising down the freeway. Idling will get you 0 miles per gallon. Cars with larger engines typically waste more when idling that cars with smaller engines.

The best way to save gas is of course not using it! What if there were a way to use less gas, and increase engine performance at the same time? Everybody had heard of these new hydrogen powered cars that are being tested on the roads of California and New York. The time has come for this technology. Why? Because hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe. And what is even better, burning hydrogen causes no emissions (other than water).

But the truth is, it will be awhile before hydrogen powered cars are available to the general public. This is because hydrogen stations aren't on every corner like gasoline. Hopefully one day we will see hydrogen replace gasoline. And our dependency on the middle-east will be over. But there is an option, why not convert your car to a gasoline and hydrogen hybrid? It's actually very easy. All it takes is a few supplies from the local hardware store and distilled water to create the HHO. By the way HHO is a form of hydrogen that is safer and is 3 times more potent than gasoline. This type of device has been used on thousands of cars in the US and saves on average of 10-15 mpg for the average driver. This device uses electrolysis to extract the HHO from water, and inject it into your car's intake system. This decreases the amount of gas used and replaces it with HHO and increases the performance of your engine. And at the same time decreases pollutants like carbon-monoxide.
