With the cost of gasoline going through the roof, most people are wishing for a way to save some money on gas. We can help. Have you ever heard of hypermiling? Just what is Hypermiling? The short answer is using any legal method of car modification or any method of driving your car that will increase gas mileage and save you money. Some of these methods may seem archaeic and a few you might say are to much trouble, but they will save you money. Lets discuss a few in the following paragraphs.

Acceleration can use up quite a bit of gas. Most people are in a hurry and don't realize how aggressive they are driving . Extreme acceleration, really giving your car the gas, or as some people call it, putting the peddle to the metal is not conducive to gas savings. When you are taking off, slowly accelerate using lighter than normal pressure on the gas peddle. Don't go from Zero to Sixty in 3 Seconds!

Go from zero to sixty in twenty to thirty seconds.

Speed is another robber of fuel efficiency. We live in a fast society and most people, anymore, go as fast as they can from one place to another. I have to watch myself, because I will be driving 75 mph if I'm not careful. You need to keep in mind that optimal fuel efficiency is around 45-50 mph. Since gas prices have risen I try to drive around 55 mph as much as I can.

Coasting is another method used to save gas. While only so much coasting is feasible, hardcore hypermilers use coasting anytime they can to save gas. Think downhill. Cut your engine off and key to auxilery power so the steering will work, and coast. Huge fuel savings can be had if you implement this correctly.

Fuel vaporization is a robber of mileage. Most people don't realize gas burns from the vapor not the liquid. You need your gas vaporizing as much as possible. There are now devices that can be built cheaply that can be added to your vehicle to improve the vaporization.

In conclusion, those are just a of the tools in the hypermiling manual.
All of them are beneficial to gas mileage. Some are more practical than others. If you want to know more about hypermiling and gas savings, visit my blog
