Research has shown many degenerative and chronic diseases in humans are caused by an unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, minimal water, and emotional stress. These items also have an effect on your pet's health. The way you care for your pet along with the veterinarian will have an impact on his lifespan.

The best care is preventative. As the owner, you spend the majority of the time with the pet and can notice when he is acting abnormal. That is the time to bring them into the veterinarian. Do not wait till you pet is seriously ill before seeking professional medical help. If the displaying odd behavior, do your best to determine the cause. Pets are generally very consistent in their patterns, so if they differ it is typically a signal that something has occurred. In addition, preventative medical help is much less expensive then medical costs once the animals has full blown problem.

Exercise is very important. Make sure the pet has ample opportunities to run around and play. In addition, a plentiful amount of clean drinking water is a must. Just as you take great steps to make sure your water is fresh so should your pets. Water if unchanged can lead to your pet becoming ill.

One of the easiest things to control is your pet's diet. Three out of the five major pet food companies belong to major multi-national companies. They are able to use the waste products from their other products for the ingredients in the pet food and hence they can charge very low prices.

A low price does not necessarily indicate a best buy as the quality is typically reduced. It is impossible for the bargain food to provide the proper nutrients when being sold at such a low cost. For bargain foods to be healthy, the manufacturers would need to raise the price.

However, in the long run the bargain food will be more expensive. Research has shown that a pet will eat a great quantity of a lower priced food than a high priced, nutritional alternative. The lower quality food will be digested at a faster rate, and the pet will become hungrier sooner. In addition, with lower nutrition, the pet will more likely end up at the veterinarian than if it had a healthy lifestyle. Make sure your pet is eating healthy. Check the ingredients before selecting a dog food.
