I wake up and turn on the TV and yet again it is another tournament win for Tiger Woods. The ability of the man is nothing short of phenomenal. However how come when people which have great ability are always questioned. I mean why should we question a guy what as such natural talent with an impossible obstacle. Im talking about comparing a great sportsman or woman to someone playing in a different time and era. We will never know if Tiger Woods would have beat Jack Nicolaus in his prime. Of course it would have been great to see both of them competing at the height of their careers. Unfortunately this is not a possibility so for all the class Woods as he always as this unfortunate obstacle thrown in front of him.

I don't know about you people out there but it annoys me when pundits try to compare players of yesterday to today. It is just an impossible task and a shame that excellent players no matter what they achieve will always have a shadow hanging over them. I mean let us take tennis for example the best player over the last few years is Roger Federer. Nadal as caught up with him now and I think you will see a lot more from him for years to come. However before Nadal came a long Federer was dominating the game of tennis.

So what do we have all of a sudden this player who is nothing short of fantastic. The dark cloud starts to appear and these are not opponents he is facing now, they are from the past. The obstacle as started to appear now it is Federer who reminds me so much of Borg and how he played say the pundits. Then the question comes would Federer be able to beat Borg or Sampras in their prime. The answer from me is we will never know it is impossible so why even bring the question up in the first place. Roger Federer will never be a Borg or Sampras he will be a Roger Federer he as got to the top of his game been Roger Federer. At the end of the day why compare him to anyone else. In my opinion it takes away a little of what he has achieved.

Now the next thing we move onto is equipment and how this as changed over the years. The tennis rackets we use today are so much different compared to over 20 years ago. So how would the likes of Borg be able to play with the rackets of today. You could say it would make him a better player easily. However when someone gets used to a certain piece of equipment it becomes a massive piece of their armoury. I can remember years ago a certain Mr Stephen Gordon Hendry having is cue broken on a flight to a tournament. This cue was a cheap cue he had played with for years and it took him ages to recover from this. There is so many aspects what come into question which make it impossible to determine who the greater man or woman is.

Tyson Vs Ali who would win we will never know I mean we all could guess, and say Ali but how can we be so sure. George Best and Cristiano Ronaldo who is better it is easy to say Ronaldo when you watch his brilliance today. However it is something we will never know. It is something that never should be bought up. Let us just enjoy watching the sporting greats of our lifetime and just be happy to say we have seen them play the game at the top. I always say a good player comes a long once a week or maybe a fortnight. A sporting great comes a long in a lifetime.
