If you are interested in investing in a wire and cable marking system then there are ways and means to go about implementing one. One of the easiest ways is to invest in thermo labels. They effectively mark wires and cables directly without damaging them in any way so you can tell what each wire is for at a quick glance.
Thermo labels provide a fantastic solution to the problem of identifying cables because they are extremely versatile and have a number of qualities that can be useful over time. For example, they are abrasion and fade resistant, meaning that the lettering will not wear off or fade over time. In twenty years or so you will be able to read the label exactly as if it were printed that day. The heat will not affect them either. In fact, thermo labels are not affected by oil, solvents, UV light, dirt or water. As such, they are perhaps the best solution for cables in the home or business premises.
There are several ways to administer thermo labels to the cables. Depending on your cable identification labeling needs, you can either purchase a thermo label printer and create your own labels or you can purchase the labels on rolls and then apply them to the individual cables as you choose. Some of the individual labels will shrink to fit the cables after they have been applied when the cables get hot but others will have to be applied with a heat gun. You should check this out before you actually purchase the labels.
A thermo labels heat printer is often more economical than buying the labels individually, especially if you are labelling all of the cables for the first time. You can print one label and then change the lettering if you so wish, which gives you more of a choice. You can also buy print cartridges when you need them so you can use it again and again. Obviously these are more widely used by electricians rather than in domestic settings by homeowners, but thermo labels can be used all over the home.
Some thermo labels printers are designed to print directly onto the cables by using a unique printing technology. This is commonly used on smaller and more awkward wires but the labels are often better for larger cables because you can easily wrap them around with little effort.
