Does anyone know how many people on this planet log on to the internet each day? Probably not, but one thing that we do know is it's an awful lot. So what does this mean to would be website owners - build a site, then thousands will come to visit. Sorry, but that's just not true, no matter who says otherwise.

The reason being 'The Big Boys', I mean the large well established sites, that will never allow smaller sites to catch them up. The sheer power behind these sites guarantees their success. OK if you discovered how to make gold and decided to publish the formula on a website, yes you would get a 'fair' share of visitors. However for the other 99.9% of new websites, it will entail months and months of website development /content management /administration /SEO /maintenance /marketing /tweaking /networking etc. So now I ask you who is going to cover your expenses? Who is going to pay for all those hours sitting over a keyboard? As I mentioned earlier we are not talking a few weeks, we're talking months, possibly years, till the site become 'Mature' enough for Google to rank it.

Then you also need to establish links, sounds easy until you start to contact other sites. Again the big boys, just don't want to know, I mean why should they, after all they've made it, they don't need links from newbie sites. You can easily get links from article writing or directories, but there's a view others have that Google doesn't really like these sort of links.

So where does that leave the new websites, receiving approx. 50 - 150 unique visitors a day / daily Adsense revenue around $1 - $3, in other words - pretty much out in the middle of a massive lake in a boat with no sails, power or oars. It's basically sink or swim!

Or is it, I have a theory? Yes we all know we need the Adsense clicks and just one link from a top performing site will benefit any site, but if Google are taking the view that directory / article submission links are worth nothing, then surely 200-300 links from relevant sites to a new site will make Google smile and help push the site up the ranking ladder. In other words a co-operative of newbie sites supporting each other, this just may get a head start in the Google ranking race. It would be difficult to create a site offering this service, so would probably for anyone who thinks this could work, have to be administered via email idhaye@how2begin.com.

Make no mistake there's a cyber war happening right now, a global battle for who owns the largest chunk of internet space. We can't compete on our own against the 'Big Boys', but as history has shown there is safety and benefits in numbers, so let's unite and take them on.
